ONE // It's in His Kiss
I can't believe I've just finished the penultimate Bridgerton book - Hyacinth's Story. I've just been reading through them at a steady pace and have been enjoying them. I think they got more interesting half-way through, once I got to the books that have not yet been featured in the television series. That tracks, it's easier to get into a story when you don't know it already. I was really looking forward to this one because I've loved the Hyacinth character's appearances in the previous book. She sounded promising. Her story was interesting because there was a mystery to solve. It gave the protagonists something to work on together that was different from the other books' story lines. While this book doesn't feature many of the Bridgerton siblings, I adored the heavy featuring of Lady Danbury and how she fits into the bigger story. This book stood out to me because it was different and the couple had more things in common than simple attraction. I also appreciate that Hyacinth didn't have to change who she was to fit into any mold. She ended up with someone who loved her the way she was and I think that's beautiful. I can't wrap my mind around the fact I'm about to start the eight and final book...
TWO // Crochet Chaos Blankets
My social media feed is filled with creators making the viral fall chaos crochet blanket. The concept is simple, you pick three elements at random. The colour, the stitch and the number of rows to crochet and make a blanket in the order elements are picked. It's such a fun idea and I love checking in with multiple creators daily. I like seeing everyone's yarn colour palettes and the blankets take shape. There is no set pattern and no rules. I think it lets people take the stress and thought out of it and just crafting for the sake of crafting. Being the big autumn and colour person that I am, watching these videos is soothing and brightens my day. I've been toying with the idea of learning to crochet (my mom started teaching me last year) and this is motivating me to start. I think the chaos blanket would be a great opportunity to learn new stitches and just practice because the pattern is more straightforward than more complicated crochet projects. I'm really thinking about it...
THREE // Orange T-Shirt
I love the burnt orange shade and try to snag pieces in this colour whenever I can. They tend to pop up around fall, so you have to be on the lookout. I have a turtleneck in this shade and I wear it often and find it great for layering. When I spotted this t-shirt, I knew I'd get plenty of wear out of it. Especially in this seasonal transition - it's perfect for now in the heat but will be wearable throughout fall with sweater layers. It's so soft and the ribbed texture makes it fit well. I love when I find a good basic in a fun colour!
FOUR // Giant Sunflower
We didn't know what to expect when we planted beans, sunflowers and one lonely pumpkin in our planter. The beans grew into a big, productive, tangle of vines, our pumpkin is struggling with life, but the sunflowers seem to be doing alright. They had a bit of a slow start and if we do this again, we'll plant the sunflowers a few weeks before the beans so that their stalks can be sturdier before the beans start climbing all over them. Some did not survive the aggressive growth and weight of the beans. That being said, a few sunflowers a thriving but one in particular is positively gigantic! It's standing at over 8 feet tall right now and has yet to flower. I see it's budding now and we should get a few blooms on it. I just can't get over its sheer size! The leaves alone are as big as my head. It's looking more like a tree than a flower and I think it's great! I might not be lining up to get a giant pumpkin, but I'll take a giant sunflower!
FIVE // Reese's Shapes
Speaking of pumpkins, I'm happy to announce that my favourite chocolatey treat is back on the shelves! Reese's shapes are back and I love that they are early. The shapes are superior in flavour and texture to the traditional cups. While I enjoy both, I do have a soft spot for the shapes. In recent years, they've been making them in fun size, perfect for handing out on Halloween. However, I like the fun size because a package lasts longer. I will never turn down a full-sized Reese's shape, but I also like the fun size option for a little treat more regularly. I got my first bag of the season, let's see how long it lasts!
