Mimi Takes Five - #424

ONE // Pumpkin Mat
The one and only piece I added to my fall décor this year. It's not because I haven't been looking. Quite to the contrary, I went to every usual store to check out the fall merchandise. I was either uninspired or I already had fall pieces I loved. I've been decorating for a few years now and find I've accumulated a good little stash of autumnal pieces that spark joy. I was not feeling any fomo at the new releases and there's something to be said about being content with what one has. That being said, I did happen upon this adorable pumpkin mat and just had to get it. It was 10$, so was really a no-brainer. I decided to plonk it indoors, in front on my patio door for an extra hint of fall in the living room. It's a good spot for it because I get to see it plenty and enjoy it. I also find these painted mats last better indoors than out...

TWO // Soup Season
It's officially soup season and I couldn't be more thrilled about it. To me, there are few meals as comforting as a bowl of warm soup and a side of freshly baked bread. We tend to go hard making a variety of soups in the fall to stock our freezer for the winter. We did such a great job last year that we still have some to work through. However, my husband made a big batch of beef and barley soup last weekend. He even got soup bones for it! I then made a batch of fresh cheese and onion scones to accompany the soup. It was so delicious and I was reminded how much I love this simple, yet filling meal. Not sure which soup will be next, but I make bread often enough that chances are, we'll have a similar meal soon enough.

THREE // Cinnamon Rolls
Speaking of fall baking, I was on a roll and decided to also make a batch of my cinnamon buns. These have become a staple in our household and nothing says fall baking more than cinnamon and brown butter. They take a bit of time to make because they involve a few steps but the result is always worth it when you pull out a pan of sizzling swirly buns from the oven. I had my fall records playing and was really into the chill baking mood. Nothing beats the smell of freshly baked cinnamon buns on a crisp fall day. This sweet treat hit the spot!

FOUR // Orange T-Shirt
I love a solid-colour t-shirt, they are great for layering and just mixing and matching. I tend to overlook the basic, non-flashy pieces that make a wardrobe so have to really focus on making sure I have the basics to go with my statement pieces. I have a burnt orange turtleneck that gets plenty of wear this time of year so knew that a t-shirt in a similar colour would work seamlessly in my closet. I landed on this ribbed scoop neck version and am loving the fit and weight of it! The slightly cropped length makes it a perfect top for high-waisted bottoms or for layering under dresses without too much bulk. I try to remind myself to not overlook the basics and am happy I didn't this time around!

FIVE // Outdoor Movie Night
My husband and I love setting up the projector in the backyard to watch movies outside. We usually do this regularly once it's warm enough but we never got around to it this summer... It was either too hot or storming; the conditions were never ideal. Last weekend, I suggested on a whim that we set it up! My husband was totally down for it as the nights have been slightly cooler and the sun sets earlier. This is the ideal season for outdoor movie-watching because I get to cozy up in a blanket and the movie ends early enough. In the summer you can't start a movie until at least 9:30 p.m. because it's light out for much longer. I don't remember what we watched, but it was a very great way to spend a fall evening. I'm already thinking about doing it again!
