Mimi Takes Five - #423

ONE // Fall Decorating
With being on vacation right up to Labour Day, I didn't get to my fall decorating until September 11th this year... I usually try to aim closer to the 1st of the month, but life got in the way. That being said, I was so ready to go right when I logged off work on Friday evening. I popped on my Charlie Brown pumpkin record and got to adding leaves and pumpkins to every surface. I love my fall décor so much, it makes my space feel so cozy and comforting. I got to light all my candles, twinkle lights and feature pieces for that perfect warm glow in the evening. We are so back!

TWO // Back to Tap!
And just like that, it's back to tap class I go! This is just another one of those things that pick up again in September that contributes to that back-to-school feeling. As a kid, my dance classes would always start up again in September and now, as an adult, the pattern is repeated. I can't tell you how much I enjoy these tap classes every week. They are just for fun and make me feel like a kid again. I'm part of a great community of tap dancers that all feel that same joy. This is your reminder to pick up a hobby you did as a kid again, it's the greatest feeling!

THREE // Cinnamon Raisin Sourdough
I've been saving ideas and jotting them down for some fall-flavoured sourdoughs. I thought I'd start easy with a cinnamon raisin loaf. I added about a cup of raisins during my stretch and folds. Then, I added a mixture or brown sugar and cinnamon during the shaping, between folds to try and get a swirl. While I tried my best to seal the edges and try to keep the sugar mixture in, some did ooze out during the baking and gave my bread a slightly darker bottom. I must admit, I was not too hopeful when I pulled it out of the oven. While it smelled amazing, it hadn't risen much... I let it cool and sliced into it to really get the full picture. To my delight it actually turned out! The raisin distribution and crumb were great and I still managed to see a slight swirl of cinnamon. The taste is perfect! Just goes to show how you shouldn't judge a bread by its crust, ha ha!

FOUR // Céline Dion
I've been obsessed with seeing all the content of Céline Dion's first concert back in Paris. Being French Canadian, I've been a lifelong Céline fan and have seen her in concert no less than three times. During the most recent one back in October of 2019, she had struggled with her voice at the beginning of the show. You could tell she was upset by it and we really thought the show was going to be cancelled right then and there. Luckily, she muddled through and gave a worthy performance in the end. Knowing what we now know of her health struggles with Stiff Person Syndrome, it all makes sense. It is so moving to see her face such a battle and return to stage performing. You could see how raw and emotional the entire experience was. I believe her when she says her public gives her strength. Our girl is back and it's a sight to behold!

FIVE // Countdown to Christmas
Well, the schedule for this year's Countdown to Christmas was bound to be released soon enough. We have the official list of new holiday movies coming to us this Christmas season from Hallmark. I always print this list and like to check off the movies I've watched this year. It helps me identify the new releases from replays. We get new movies every Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting October 16th. We're also getting a third season of Mistletoe Murders on Thursdays. I can't wait for the festive movies to start rolling out. I'm a fall girl, but also a Christmas girl - so this is all part of the seasonal things I look forward to.
