Crimson Christmas

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! As a French Canadian, Christmas Eve is where it's at in our family. The usual format is everyone gets dressed up for church, we attend midnight mass (or whatever time it's given at these days), come home to huge réveillon and then open gifts in the wee hours of the morning. It's tradition and I love everything about it! Then we get to sleep in on Christmas morning and just laze in our pyjamas and do family activities all day culminating in a big turkey dinner with extended family that evening. When we were kids, Christmas day often involved sledding and playing in the snow. We were definitely outdoorsy kids. How could we not be, living on a farm with all the wide open spaces? My mom loves entertaining and would whip up the most elaborate meals. Her dessert plates are legendary! I did not inherit her culinary skills, that's for sure. Good thing my sister lives nearby and keeps me supplied with home-baked goodies!

This year, we are not going to the farm for Christmas. Because of the wedding coming up, my fiancé and I wanted a low-key holiday break to relax before the inevitably hectic couple weeks before our big day. We'll be seeing everybody at that party anyways. We have plans to attend midnight mass in town because one of my fiancé's uncles is singing in the choir. We'll then go back to theirs and have a little family réveillon. We'll exchange gifts once we get home, just the two of us!
