Mimi Takes Five - #284

ONE // Snowman
My mom gifted me another wood block crafting kit at Christmas. I've lost count of how many I've done in the last few years, but I'm always down for more! These are my most favourite décor pieces as they are uniquely hand made. You can't beat that. I love a good Homesense find, but there is something to be said about spending time making your own décor. This kit was very fitting as I stayed cozied up indoors during a snow storm to work on it. It's the sweetest little snowman! I did swap out the red snowflake ribbon for a plaid option I found in my ribbon stash and think it makes it more winter. I immediately found him a spot atop the piano for the season. I don't have a lot in terms of winter décor, but I do like to sprinkle a few things around the home to soften the emptiness of taking down all the festive stuff. My husband is also fond of these little wooden block creations but for a very different reason. He flexes his creative muscles by rearranging the blocks into other display options... He's already thinking of all the possibilities with the snowman! I think the part he enjoys most is seeing my reactions when I notice the change.

TWO // Five-Year Anniversary
Today marks our five-year wedding anniversary! Hard to believe it's already been five years since we got married outdoors in a literal snow storm. Good times! It was probably the most Canadian thing we'd done and now have an epic story. It's a win-win! I figured drawing a heart in the snow was fitting today. We have a cozy dinner reservation for two tonight and plan on celebrating quietly. Here's to many more years of going through life with my person.

THREE // Nude Sheertex Tights
I've been slowly but surely investing in some Sheertex tights. I do love them and they stand up to the hype, in my opinion. I've got a pair of classic sheer black, then added a classic sheer cocoa pair, followed by some ultra sheer black tights and finally some classic sheer nude ones last winter. Then, this summer, I snagged some super sheer nude tights. If you only have two pairs of tights, I'd say black and nude would be all you need. I like having the different thicknesses in the most worn hues because I reach for different ones depending on the season. I'm very happy with my Sheertex collection so far! I think I might invest in more colours as my other tights give out. They are an investment, but also have lasting power. They are also some of the most comfortable tights I've ever worn, the think waist band really is the best!

FOUR // New Year, Same Hair
Ha, I bet you thought it would say "new hair"! There was a time I had more fun with my hair and changed it up a lot. Truthfully, a lot of the changes were actually encouraged by my sister (also my hairdresser at the time). But I find myself in a very content hair phase. I like the length and I like the warm shade of brown. I guess I like the predictability of it, or rather it just feels very "me." I do style my hair many ways and I find the length helps give me more options in that department. I've had it short and mid-length and honestly, all lengths require time and maintenance. I like being able to throw it up in a bun or ponytail to just get it out of the way sometimes. I also like wearing hair accessories, so this style is a great canvas to showcase those. I do add in tinsel for a little something extra and opted for a pinkish purple this time as Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I'm not sure when I'll go for a big change, but I don't think it'll be anytime soon.

FIVE // Teddy Belt Bag
I've been seeing these belt bags all over the last few years. I thought they were cute, but never got around to trying one out as I already had similar options from years past. Well, my mom got me this black teddy version for Christmas and I love it! It's spacious enough for all the essentials and the strap is long enough for me to wear it cross-body. I love the teddy texture and think it's a great winter option, especially for days when you are running errands and keeping your hands free. This bag would also be a great travel bag! It was a real surprise to me as I'd never mentioned liking these to my mom. I guess she just knows me and figured it was something on my radar, ha ha! Well, she nailed it. Again!
