Mimi Takes Five - #409

ONE // Workout Dress
I love a workout dress. It's the convenience of a dress and workout clothing all wrapped up in one. I loved this shade of blue, the cross-back straps and fit and flare silhouette of this one, so had to get it. It's the easiest, most comfortable thing to wear. I've worn it for lounging on the weekend, for cleaning and even for working out. It's worked so well in every situation. The only downside is having to remove the entire thing when using the bathroom. I suppose you could opt to remove the cups and wear a sports bra, but that would add a layer, which might not be an option for everyone. I tend to wear it around the house in any case, so this is not a big issue for me. I have a few workout skirts, but this is my second workout dress. It makes working out feel more fancy!

TWO // Pastel Manicure
It has been a hot minute since my last manicure. To be honest, it's just not something I've had the energy to focus on. Sometimes, just finding the time to cut and file my nails is good enough. But I decided to finally give myself a pastel, springtime manicure. Better late than never! I opted for this light turquoise shade. I don't often do green or blue hues on my hands, but I think this one is working. It's cheerful without being too loud and I find myself admiring them every now and then. I'm also stunned that there are no chips as I did a bathroom deep clean the day after painting my nails and I thought for sure that this would damage them. So far, so good!

THREE //Bon Cop, Bad Cop
Alright my bilingual Canadians, this one's for you! The cult action comedy of the early 2000s, Bon Cop, Bad Cop is being expanded into a television series. I for one am here for it! Never had a French/English movie been so well done and hilarious. The language and culture dualities that co-exist in Canada were so well represented on screen. And don't even get me started on the bilingual word play - that scratches an itch in the best way. As someone who is fluent in both French and English, and who switches between the two in a similar fashion on a daily basis, this movie was spot on. I've only watched the first episode of the series (because my husband and I are trying to pace ourselves) I am hooked! I laughed so many times I lost track. This show is the most Canadian, in the best way. It's so representative of the reality of living in this country. Not only are the French/English, Quebecker/Ontarian dualities very much at play, but I appreciate that there is a central indigenous reality featured as well. These dynamics are very much present in Canada and I appreciate the inclusion in shows such as this one (Letterkenny also comes to mind.) It's not perfect and there are still stereotypes, but I see an effort being made. I also absolutely love that the character of the Prime Minister is depicted as being Acadian and speaks chiac. Such a great touch, and really takes the language humour up a notch. Speaking of language, I also really appreciate Indigenous languages being spoken on the screen. It also shows speakers switching back and forth between languages in the same conversation. So far, this show paints a fairly accurate picture of life in Canada. I can't wait to watch the rest. For those interested, it's on Crave.

FOUR // Pickle Fries
When my local chip truck released its Pickle Fries last summer, I had missed out... So, when I saw that they brought them back for a limited time, I didn't waste any time in getting some. Boy, did they live up to the hype! It's a basic base of chip chuck fries, with loads of dill sauce and a literal pile of shredded dill pickles. It's the most delectable combination of flavours and I thoroughly enjoyed my little treat. I enjoyed it so much that we went back a few days later for round 2, ha ha! I'm determined to make the most of the pickle fry window this year! Seriously, though, if you are a dill pickle fanatic like yours truly, run to Golden Fries!

FIVE // June Ipsy
I've gotten the Ipsy glam bag for two months in a row after a six-month break. I have to say, the design of the bag is what got me again. Before even reading the meaning behind the design, I knew right away that the pink satin bow was reminiscent of the dress Marilyn wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blonds. That pink bow dress is iconic and this bag is just as unique. I love the texture and the statement bow that goes beyond the edges of the bag. It was an immediate yes from me! The content was a bit better this time around. I love a good eye patch and these ones are cooling and comfortable to wear. I'm liking the moisturizer and serum. I love the tinted lip balm, but I do find the tube a bit on the larger side... The eye liner is fine, but I prefer liquid liners. I don't love pencils. Finally, I added a few new-to-me First Aid Beauty products because I love this brand and use many of their products. I love the KP bump eraser and the anti-chafe stick to name a few. So, I figured the KP smoothing lotion and the deodorant cream would be up my alley. I have yet to really test the deodorant cream, but plan on using it on my feet to prevent rubbing on hot, humid days. The lotion smells divine and I'm sure it helps a bit. All in all, very pleased with this month's bag content, but especially the bag itself!
