ONE // Lemon Sugar Rolls
We were invited to a neighbour's for a BBQ last weekend and I ended up making a batch of my Lemon Sugar Rolls for dessert. I love making sweet rolls of all varieties for dessert and find the lemon option to be a perfect summer or warm-weather option. The brightness of the flavour lightens the roll and offers a great contrast to the sweetness. Similarly to cupcakes, what I like about rolls is that they are easy to pull apart and serve in a crowd. This time, I presented them on a platter and it made serving so easy and straightforward. I also like that rolls are a portable dessert, it can be eaten without cutlery or even a plate. They were a real hit and people couldn't stop talking about how the lemon iteration is a perfect summer option over the classic cinnamon version.
TWO // Dream Dress
I'm pretty sure I don't need any stats to tell me that dresses are my preferred clothing items. I love and live for pretty dresses. For years now, I've been drooling over Abercrombie dresses. I find their silhouettes so flattering and their prints are classic. After years of lurking on the website, I finally came across a dress I simply had to have. I've been loving the Basque waist trend of the past few years and find this style suits me well. Also, this primary colour floral print and tiny lace detailing all contributed to this being a dress I needed to get my hands on. It arrived and I was beyond happy with the quality and the fit. I literal perfect dress. The only thing I'd change is making the lining longer. Luckily, the fabric of this dress is thick enough it's not an issue. I cannot express how happy I am with this dress. It's perfection - will be on repeat until further notice.
THREE // Blood of My Blood - Season 2
The timing of this teaser release is no accident, I'm sure of that. With the recent Outlander series finale, the fans needed something to latch onto. That finale was a hard one to accept and I'm still hopeful we'll get another season or possibly a movie after the publication of book 10. We'll have to wait and see on that one. For now, we can seek comfort in the prequel series Blood of My Blood. Its second season will premiere on September 18, 2026. The timing couldn't be more perfectly aligned with the arrival of fall. A comfort show just in time for cocooning season - I love this for me! Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger with Julia, Henry and baby William standing at the stones during an escape. Based on the teaser, it looks like possibly Henry travelled but Julia and the baby stayed in the past or the opposite of that. This lays the groundwork for some major speculation! We also see that the Frasers will be involved in a war (I'm guessing linked to the first Risings). I can't wait to watch this! since we have no books to go by, it's all new and that makes the watching experience that much more enjoyable. No comparisons!
FOUR // Fresh Hair
Regular maintenance hair appointments are what I do for myself. It's my little treat, some pampering and me time. Most of the time, the changes are not drastic. I stick to a simple formula: I get my roots touched up every six weeks or so and every second appointment I get a trim too. That's it, really. About once a year, I'll get a full colour to even it out because it fades over time. Other than that I use a quality shampoo and conditioner and do heatless curls. I keep things really simple and this is what's been working for me. I always feel so fresh walking out of the salon with my roots touched up. It's the simple things in life, really.
FIVE // Plants
We added some white petunia hanging pots to the backyard and it really adds a nice touch. We've been hanging flower pots on the pergola for years now and I love how it brings the green up to eyesight. They also provide a nice little pop of colour. We went for white this year and I think they're great. My husband also planted some climbing snap peas, cucumbers and radishes in the planters below the trellis with the goal of the vines climbing and making a nice green wall. A few of the peas have started climbing and it's exciting to see the yard/garden take shape. I'm out there every morning in my pyjamas checking on the plants, ha ha!
