Layer Slayer

I've now worn a blouse under a dress two days in a row... I guess I'll talk about one of my favourite layering tricks. Wearing a blouse under a sleeveless dress is a great way to transition pieces from one season to the next. The blouse can either dress down a more formal dress or dress up a more casual one. For example, I wore a plaid shirt under a slightly more formal dress yesterday and by doing so, made the dress a tad more casual for daytime. On the other hand, today's look is very dressy. A white and black neck-tie blouse and a black leather dress are both classic elements in their own rights, but by layering them, I gave them a whole new life. It make the dress feel less edgy while the blouse is less stuffy. I really like the end result! I also decided on black burnout tights and red shoes, lips and earrings for added interest. On second thought, I might have been better off with different tights as I feel the outfit is a little too black with this particular pair... I'll know for next time! Today was also the day I broke out the cape and floppy hat! I've been dying to wear my capes again and am happy the weather is finally cooperating. Fall would simply not be complete without an abundance of capes and floppy hats!

Head-Turning Accessory

The sun is shining and it's making me happy! So happy in fact, that I decided today was the day to debut my statement piece of statement pieces! Get a load of this beauty! It was a birthday gift from my partner this year, and let me tell you, he nailed it! Does he know me or what? The obvious starting off point of this look was the necklace and I wanted to make sure it was featured in all its glory! I opted for a simple black shift dress and decided to take the look in the edgy territory by adding leopard burnout tights, metallic booties and ombre lips! I am totally digging the end result! I feel like I can take on anything the day throws my way. One thing's for sure, you can't miss the pièce de résistance!

Poncho Combo

I have a thing for my poncho! It's such a fun piece to have in my closet! I decided to pair the boxy, loose-fitting top with a short fitted mini-skirt. I absolutely love the end result! This is proportion play at its best! I added some leopard burnout tights and black booties to finish things off. The tone-on-tone pattern of the tights sets off the horizontal striping of the poncho. A bit of print mixing never hurts, the key is that I stuck with the monochromatic palette. Go ahead and mix things up a bit by playing with proportions and patterns!

Accessorize Like a Boss

I like a good statement piece and this bib necklace is very loud! I knew I had to have it the moment I spotted it. I could not stop thinking of possible ways to style it, my brain was on overdrive! Today, I chose to wear it with my burgundy leather mini and my metallic grey sweater and burnout tights. This look is so glam! I agree that all this shine can give a slight disco-ball illusion, but it is not as shiny in person. The camera flash makes it look way shinier than it really is. I absolutely love the in-your-face effect of the necklace, it really makes the outfit! This look could easily be worn to a multitude of festive activities in the upcoming season. Work party, happy hour, family diner, you name it! Shine on my fellow fashionistas!

TBT - Teal it Like it is!

Teal and peplum: two of my favourite things. I paired this simple sheath dress with a black peplum jacket, black burnout tights, black booties and a black belt. I then sprinkled a few gold accessories to match the hardware of the belt and called it a day. The combination of peplum and waist belt really emphasize the waist and the hourglass figure. It's a simple trick that does wonders for the silhouette! I chose burnout tights to add a bit of whimsy to the outfit. I thought that black opaque tights would have been to much, too stern of a look. The look was fancy, feminine and fun all in one!
