Mimi Takes Five - #362

ONE // Hat Trick
During my last vacation down south, I found a new hat trick! I didn't want to bring multiple straw hat options, so was trying to find a way of making one basic option more versatile. I decided to bring my straw boater hat with beige hat band. It's a perfect neutral, goes-with-everything hat. But then I decided to bring a few printed scarves that I could tie around the crown of the hat. It was one of my more brilliant ideas, if I say so myself! Well, I decided to use this trick again this summer and think it's an easy way to adapt a hat and make it match with your daily outfits. I used my lilac floral scarf today and love the result! I will note that you need a larger scarf in order to use this trick. This scarf is 80 cm x 80 cm and works wonderfully!

TWO // Movie Date Night
My husband spontaneously suggested we go on a movie date last Friday. We haven't been to the cinema in a little while because nothing struck my fancy. But I was down to go sit in a dark, air-conditioned room for a few hours! He picked the movie - F1 : The Movie. Being the Formula 1 fan that he is, this movie was one he really wanted to see. I obliged! He set the whole thing up by buying the tickets and selecting the fancy recliners with extra side tables and heated seats. We stocked up on snacks and settled in for the feature presentation. I didn't have high expectations as it's not really in my field of interest. However I thoroughly enjoyed the movie! While the story was set in a race setting, there was more to it and the characters. I did pick up on some of the actual drivers in the movie because I've heard my husband talk about them ad nauseam. We got out of the movies in the wee hours of the morning, but it was a really nice evening out!

THREE // Lemon Sarong
I recently found this lemon-print sarong in my swimsuit cabinet. I'd completely forgotten I had it and I don't think I've ever worn it... Oops! I have a cute yellow bikini it would pair well with, and some green swimsuit options that would also be a match. I have to make a point of wearing it this summer! If I recall correctly, I had gotten it for cheap off Amazon a few years back and had tucked it away. Then I promptly forgot about it when the warm weather came around. I try my best to keep track of my closet items, but sometimes some just fall through the cracks. It sure gives new meaning to "shop your closet" when you actually find new pieces you have yet to wear. So just like that, I have a new lemon sarong. It's perfect timing with it being the summer of yellow.

FOUR // Crochet Crush
I stumbled upon this small crochet account on Instagram a few weeks ago and I have been hooked (pun intended) ever since! I'm always fascinated by creators and get sucked in when they post a multi-part series of them working on a bigger craft project. This is the case with @moonbaecrochet's Disney series! She's rewatching all the classic Disney animations in order and crocheting a square for each one. She's making a point of using up her leftover yearn stash along the way and is designing each square herself! I'm amazed at the talent. I look forward to watching her videos almost daily and am happy I found the series when it started because I get to follow along in real time! I think my favourites so far are the 101 Dalmations and the Winnie the Pooh squares. The squares will make up a blanket in the end and I can't wait to see it completed!

FIVE // Hair Care
I went for a maintenance root colour the other day. I've been sticking with the same hair colour for years. The answer is simple; I like it and still get compliments on it! I think it's close enough to my actual hair colour that it looks natural. This colour just gives it a richer tone. Besides, I'm a firm believer in not changing things for the sake of change if they are working perfectly fine. So, I just make sure to get regular root touch-ups and trims to keep my hair healthy. I was actually very due and was wearing hats during the last week before my appointment... It always feels good to go to the salon and get pampered, even if it's just a maintenance appointment.
