TBT - Ice Queen

I had worn this icy grey look to a work Christmas party a few years back. This outfit was styled before Frozen came out but, in hindsight, I like to think it could have been inspired by the Snow Queen with its white, light grey and shimmery touches. It is definitely a winter colour palette and it's fresh and simple, yet totally festive! This dress is actually strapless, but by wearing a cardigan over top, it gives the illusion it's a skirt all while keeping me warm. The more I look at this outfit, the more I like it. I would even dare repeat this look, if only I still had the cardigan, sweater and earrings... Those pieces were unfortunate casualties of this past summer's ordeal. I'm sure I could adapt it thought and still manage to wear a very similar look. Let's see what I can come up with by getting a little creative!

Ladylike Look

 

When going through the boxes of clothes my mom brought over, I came upon this super cute dress! I tried it on and immediately loved it! It fit perfectly and has the sweetest peasant touches. The simple floral print, the delicate ruffles at the sleeves and neckline and the light fabric all remind me of Little Bo Peep! Because it is a lights fabric, I decided to pair it with tights and an overpiece sweater for the cooler weather. I added simple jewelry that picks up on the colour palette and finished things off with these fabulous multi-coloured contrast pumps! How eye-catching is that colour-blocking? This classic shoe has an edge and its burgundy, so will obviously be on repeat this Holiday season!

Bright White

Here I go again, layering shirt and sweater... I paired my bright white sweater with my go-to chambray shirt and printed jeans for a fun, cool-coloured outfit. The white and blue combination is a simple one, but the print on the pants and the ruffle details on the sweater make this look anything but! I added a trendy velvet choker and metallic booties to kick things up a notch. This look was a mix of preppy and casual styles, and suited for both of those settings. Try mixing and matching your casual pieces with more polished ones to achieve a look that transcends the style trends!

Skater Girl

I'm feeling like a skater girl today! Mini skirt, plaid, tights and sneakers, I'm all set! Just need a skateboard. On second thought, considering my lack of coordination, a hover board might be a better match... Then again, I'm sure I'd manage to fall flat on my face with that too. I'll just stick to posing like a skater girl if that's ok with you all. I must say, this outfit is super comfy, and practical! I love layering sweaters over shirts, they make for the perfect cool-weather combo! If you haven't tried it yet, I urge you too. You'll be quite surprised by just how warm it is, plus you look super fly too! Just imagine how much more wear you can get from mixing and matching you winter separates! Go on, expand your horizons!

Jewel Floral

  

I had a work event to attend and wanted to dress a bit more formally. I decided on this colourful high-waisted midi-skirt and paired it with warm tones to make it fall-worthy. I simply picked up on the purple, burgundy and beige of the skirt to anchor the look and warm it up. This is a reason I love colourful prints on clothing, it makes them easy to style and likely transitions them from one season to the next. Because of the turquoise and lime green, this skirt is perfect for spring or hot summery days. However, the darker shades allow it to be worn during the cooler months as well. Add a great pair of tights and a sweater for an effortless outfit change!

Classy Cobalt

I've been getting a lot of wear out of this dress... It was purchased after the fire because I needed something formal to attend an event (here). I then wore it to a wedding (here)  and now, out to dinner with friends. Cobalt blue is a colour that can be worn all year round. I had paired it with bright accessories for the summer and toned it down with black tights and metallic touches for fall. I think it would look great paired with a white blazer for winter too! I'm always tempted to invest in monochromatic lace dresses because lace is timeless, a monochrome colour is easy to style and versatile while the fit-and-flare shape suits my body type perfectly. It's a win-win-win situation! Although I've worn it three times in just as many months, I never felt like I was wearing the same outfit. That is how a staple piece should feel: always fresh and never tired.

Poppy Red

 

Remembrance Day is upon us. I only find it fitting to wear black for this somber event and a hint of red, to match with the poppy, of course. Growing up, I was an Air Cadet and it really instilled in me an appreciation for what the previous generations sacrificed for us. I always take a moment to remember that on November 11. I also have a brother who is in the Armed Forces and am tremendously proud of his service to our country. I really admire his bravery and sense of duty. So for past and present generations, I wear the poppy proudly and remind myself of how lucky I am to live in Canada.

TBT - Red Blazer

With Christmas just around the corner, red will be a recurring colour in my outfits. It's just so festive and cheerful! I had actually worn this outfit on Valentine's Day a few years back and think it would work equally as well during the festive season. I've noticed that I wear this blazer a lot more in December and February than any other time of year. What can I say? I'm a thematic dresser: ready for any occasion! Brace yourselves because I predict a downpour of red this holiday season!!!

November Weather

 

November is not only sweater weather, but also sweater-dress weather. What could be better than a sweater dress, really? It's all the coziness of a sweater, but in an entire outfit! It's basically a knit blanket worn to work, albeit in a bit more of a structured manner. I wore this little grey cable-knit one with a simple fuchsia pendant and grey tights. I finished off the look with my trusty black OTK boots for a sultry touch to an otherwise prim and proper look. The devil is in the details! For the outside look, I wore my (new) burgundy jacket meant to replace a similar blue one I had... I paired it with a matching beanie and mitten set in an off-white knit and added a plaid blanket scarf to complete the cozy look!

Mimi's Shadow

 

So on Halloween, I dressed up in my unicorn onesie again (see this post). I was able to convince my colleague to get the pink version and we were a matching set of unicorns! However, I have my tap class on Monday's. I decided to wear black from head to toe, to kind of stay in the spirit of things. I figured I was going as a shadow of myself. Think Peter Pan's shadow, that kind of vibe. Definitely on the boring side of costuming, but it also worked perfectly to wear under the onesie, so it's the explanation I'm sticking with! My colleague was a real trooper and made rainbow unicorn cookies, which we went around handing out while visiting other departments. We were just two little unicorns spreading joy and sprinkles wherever they went!
