Mimi Takes Five - #96

ONE // Spring Cleaning
Now is the time more than ever to get a head start on my spring cleaning. Spending more time at home means more time to clean! I don't really love cleaning, but I do like a clean place and it makes me feel very accomplished. I made a list of the items that need a deep-clean and started with the biggest task: the kitchen! I climbed up to the ceiling and wiped down every single cupboard and drawer, then I moved on to scrubbing the back splash, wiping down the appliances and running a clean cycle for the oven. I still have to scrub the sink, wash the window and floors, but I'm off to a good start!

TWO // Painting with Bob
So, my husband and I have started a new relaxing activity during this quarantine: painting! We came across Bob Ross episodes on Netflix and find them very calming to watch. It inspired us to take out the crafting supplies and give it a try! We've set up an easel in our living room and follow along as Bob Ross paints these beautiful nature scenes. I am by no means an artist (I'll leave that to my sister), but I find the activity very soothing. My first jab at it turned out okay in my humble opinion. I'll be sure to try another soon enough!

THREE // Hair Woes
I have to say, one non-essential service I will miss during social distancing is hair styling... My roots were already due for a touch up before isolation began, so I can just imagine what it will look like in a few weeks. This ordeal is sure to age us all, what when the real hair colours (ahem, greys) start showing. I know I've got white hairs. I've had them since I was 25 and, to be honest, I don't really mind them. I just prefer to dye my hair. I guess this will be a chance to really take my natural hue for a test drive, before committing to it or not. Either way, my hair salon has found a creative way of staying in touch with their clients and they've also vowed to not cut or dye their own hair for as long as they can't do the same for us! They created a Facebook group for us all to stay in touch and they plan on sharing content on how to handle our newly found hair challenges. I find this solidarity touching and refreshing.

FOUR // Puzzling
To me, one of the best ways to occupy myself for hours is to do a puzzle. I love puzzling! However, I have to be careful because it is addicting to me. I get completely consumed with my puzzle and can spend hours (even days) doing nothing else until it's completed. It can be dangerous if I start a puzzle when I have other things that need to get done. That's why I typically only do them when I'm off. Now that I've discovered podcasts, I got into the habit of playing them while I'm busy putting pieces together. Multi-tasking at its best, haha! Puzzles also offer a great opportunity for escapism and keep the mind busy. I think it's safe to say we can all use a bit of an escape these days...

FIVE // Bubble Bath
Another one of my guilty pleasures is a good long soak in a bubbly bath. Who doesn't love a bubble bath? I really enjoy unwinding at the end of the day and just taking some me time. I always put loads of eucalyptus Epsom salts in the tub and usually add in either a Lush bath bomb, bubble bar or bath oil to the mix as well. There is something so comforting and soothing about soaking in a luxurious bath. We are all in need of a little extra comfort these days so I highly recommend taking some alone time to just check out and take a bath. Bring along a good book, your favourite podcast or even your current Netflix binge-show. Close the door, dim the lights and relax.
