Mimi Takes Five - #35

ONE // Turning 30
So today is my birthday and I turn 30. It totally crept up on me. I was so wrapped up in wedding planning that I forgot I was celebrating a milestone birthday this year. I guess it was a good distraction because I was busy with the wedding that I didn’t have time to freak out about starting a new decade. I guess that was a good thing because I’m totally OK with turning 30. My husband (so odd writing this!) said that I locked him in before I expired. Ha! It’s all in good fun, but it sure made me laugh! You know you married the right guy when he knows just what to say to make you giggle and forget about your troubles! I could not have wrapped up my twenties in a better way, on a better note or on a better high. Here’s to starting my thirties with a bang! I can’t wait see where the next 10 years has in store!

TWO // Winter Cottage
Seeing as we partied pretty hard last weekend, (because you know, we got married), we wanted to keep things low-key for my birthday weekend. Our friends invited us over to their cottage and we kept things pretty chill with board-games, snacks, movies and great conversation! As much as I like a good get-together, it’s also nice to spend quality time with friends. I was also OK with not going all-out for my milestone birthday. If it hadn’t been for the wedding, who knows if we would have had a big birthday bash? Seeing as it’s not that big a deal to me, I’m happy we rung in my thirties in a simple way. There is something so relaxing about going to a cozy cottage in the winter. It’s totally hygge and I love it!

THREE // January Ipsy
I was so excited to receive my January Ipsy glambag because it is jam packed with goodies that will be perfect for my mini-moon to a sunny destination! The rose gold polish and loose pigment powder will be great shades for vacation and the hand lotion will be the perfect travel-sized thing to pack in my carry-on. Also, the striped pouch is giving me all those beach cabana vibes! I’m also looking forward to trying the lip gloss. It will be great on its own for a day on the beach or layered over a darker lippy for a night-time glam look. They are all great product options to bring on vacation because they are versatile, travel-sized, moisturizing and in the right colour scheme for dewy, bronzed skin. I can’t wait to escape the cold winter for a bit of fun in the sun!

FOUR // Cotton Candy Sky
I love how the days are getting longer. It's part of the seasonal cycle and I find it energizing when we get even the slightest glimpse more of sunlight. The other morning, I was sitting down with my morning tea and happened to catch this amazing colours in the sky. The cotton-candy hues only lasted a few minutes and I was so thankful I got to catch it! I took a moment for myself before the day began and appreciated my surroundings. It's the little things that make life to special.

FIVE // Cookies!
My colleague was kind enough to dog/house sit for us during our wedding weekend and we came home to a fresh batch of cookies! She's a very talented baker and is always bringing sweet treats to work so this was a wondering surprise when we got home. Plus, the house smelled amazing! These double chocolate cookies were absolutely sinful! They even had a slight butterscotch aroma even though there was no trace of butterscotch in them. Go figure! Have I mentioned the girl can bake? I've been enjoying them all week and then she surprised my with carrot cupcakes at work on Friday for my birthday! There is no lack of sweet treats in my life at the moment. Just keep 'em coming!
