Apple Orchard

I made it out to the orchard to pick my own apples again this fall! I've always loved apple picking, but have only been going regularly the last few years. I really look forward to the tradition now and find it's the first real activity that kicks off my fall season. I have a fall check-list chock full of activities to do, movies to watch, things to bake and foods to eat. Apple picking is one of the first things I usually check off the list. I'm lucky enough to have a great orchard nearby, so am very grateful this activity is accessible to me.

This year, I made plans to go with a dear friend! She was looking forward to it and was very enthusiastic about taking pictures and creating content. She gets me! Besides, my husband (who usually indulges me in this matter) was in a fishing tournament that day, so it was just us girls. We brought our baskets and put on our cozy fall outfits for the occasion. I opted for a plaid flannel and a felt hat while she went the jeans, long-sleeve t-shirt and puffer vest route. Both ideal for apple picking! I will admit, I was probably the only one wearing a dress, but I was very confident in my choice of outfit. I was leaning into that quaint, romantic, folklore vibe. I was likely subconsciously inspired by Anne of Green Gables (a childhood heroine of mine) in some way.

After picking some juicy, crunchy apples, we went home to bake some apple pies! I mean, that seems like the natural order of things. What else would be the go-to thing to do post apple picking? This was my first time making a pie crust from scratch. The pie turned out delicious, but I will be tweaking a few things next time I attempt a crust. I'll have to roll it out thinner and make sure to add an egg wash before baking. I guess perfecting the technique is just an excuse to bake another pie!
