ONE // Peppermint Candy Bolster
I have developed a taste for cute, seasonal cushions. I love the whimsy they add to my décor! I also have a preference for classic Christmas décor with hints of peppermint and gingerbread. I can't explain it, but I find the sweet treats inspiring. Naturally, when I saw this peppermint candy bolster cushion, I had to have it! It's the most precious thing I've clapped eyes on in a little while. I can't with the wrapper detail on the ends - so stinking cute! I know bolsters are typically reserved for bedding accents, but I sat mine on a chair in our living room. I just love the way it looks in the space and think it adds such a unique festive touch!
TWO // Sourdough Discard Crackers
While my sourdough bread journey is still in its beginning, I'm working on strengthening my starter. Lots of experimenting at this stage, but learning as I go! Having faith and trusting the process. In the meantime, I'm turning my attention to discard recipes. I hate wasting the discard at every feeding, so I decided to try sourdough discard crackers. What a revelation this has been! It's the simplest recipe (all the recipes I've found are pretty much the same - discard, butter and salt!) I found that cooking on convection lends to a more even bake. I've made at least four batches this past week and they go down a treat! They have a slight cheese flavour to them and I think it's the yeast from the discard. I never thought I'd be making homemade crackers one day, yet here I am...
THREE // Red Pearl Sweater
While this sweater is not a Christmas sweater per se, I do love wearing it during the holidays. The red hue lends itself well to the festive colour palette without limiting its wearability to a few weeks of the year. I love wearing this sweater all season long and think it also works well for Valentine's Day. A red sweater that can pull double holiday duty is a must! The pearl detailing really gives it that little something extra and classy. The best part is that it can easily be dressed up or down. Pair with a black satin skirt for a formal occasion or with jeans for a casual weekend. I'm a pearl girly through and through so I see myself wearing this sweater for years to come!
FOUR // Peppermint Shower Gel
I think the peppermint is my unofficial MVP of the Christmas season this year. I always hold a soft spot for peppermint and gingerbread this time of year, but the peppermint seems to be winning it out this year. Not only have its cute red and white stripes made their way into my home décor, but the uplifting scent is the top choice for my self-care. I love switching out my shower gel scents to match the moods of the seasons. Not unlike with candles, the scents throughout my home really help get me in the spirit of whatever time of year it is. The pink colour of the Twisted Peppermint shower gel is such a vibe!
FIVE // Snow, Finally!
It's rather late this year, but we finally got our real first snowfall of the season! Big fluffy snowflakes came down for about 24 hours and blanketed the ground with a nice layer of heavy white stuff. The first snowfall is always so magical! It hits me right in the nostalgic childhood wonder and I get giddy on the inside! However, now that I'm an adult, I also think of the patio furniture I didn't get a chance to store yet... That'll be a fun project this weekend! It also means the return of shovelling the driveway. So yeah, I love a good snowfall and still find it magical but I'm looking at it from a realistic adult perspective too. The dog, however, is living her best life bouncing around the backyard and bringing all the snow indoors.
