Grurple

Sorry for the less-than glamorous look today. I wore this on the day before the trip. I still had so much to do, including packing and shopping for last minute items to pack. I never wait till the last minute when it comes to packing for a trip, but this time around I simply did not have enough minutes in a day to get around to it, seeing as we moved two days prior... Turns out, I can achieve this daunting task in the allotted time-frame, minus one freak out over a belt I could not find. As it turns out, my partner found it. I guess in this case I had to send a man to do a woman's job... It was challenging to rummage through boxes and clothing racks to find the exact pieces I was looking for. The clothing and box contents were not sorted in any logical order and the labeling was very vague. Last-minute packing would be made easier if I simply had to go in my very organized closet to make my selection of clothing. I will tackle this major organizational task upon my return. First things first, this girl needs a mojito!

Birch, please

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate on the construction of a traditional birch bark canoe. Granted I played a very little part, but I participated nonetheless. My task was one of splitting roots to be used as a type of thread to sew pieces together. I had no idea the roots could be split... The splitting is actually done by hand. A very meticulous task at that! Turns out I have a knack for it! It was surprisingly very calming and spiritual. I really felt connected to the material I was using and have a profound respect for the art of canoe building. So much work and time goes into it. It really is both a work of art and a feet of engineering. I will cherish this experience for a long time to come.

The Groutfit

I recently learned that wearing grey from head to toe is an actual thing and it's called a Groutfit. Makes sense, it's a combination of the words "grey" and "outfit". However, my initial thought when hearing the word was leaning more towards tile flooring than fashion... Regardless of how I feel about the name, I do like the concept of piling on varying shades of grey to make one stand-out look. Although monochromatic dressing is not a new concept, I guess the grey looks have been more prominent than others. Perhaps it has something to do with grey being a more muted and understated colour. It's more tempting to try out a new trend, but not go full-on. I guess that would explain why monochromatic yellow looks are hard to come by... (Note to self: start the Yellfit movement.) The trick in pulling this off is to vary the shades and textures of the individual components of the look. This will add dimension and interest. In today's look, I've got fur, lace, denim, suede and knits in shades of charcoal to light grey. Have fun with it, you'd be amazed how creative you can get with only a grey colour palette.

Seafoam Shopping

My weekends are increasingly busy these days... Today, we were on a mission to find legs for our live-edge table top. We ended up in the most amazing little furniture shop and fell in love with practically all of its contents. We were lucky enough to check a few things off our list: including stools, table legs, artwork and a couple chairs. We did not set out to purchase chairs and décor, but could not resist it seeing as the pieces were perfect for our new home. I really want to be in the house and get a feel for the spaces before shopping for furniture. At least now we will have a couple chairs to sit as soon as we move in. So stools, a couple chairs and a mattress will pretty much be it furniture wise. It'll be like camping for a little while... I'm ok with that, I like camping! After some pretty intense shopping, we met up with my mom and her gang for lunch, followed by some more shopping later on. I'm happy I chose to wear a really comfortable tunic sweater and jeans. Today happened to be a lot busier than I had anticipated... It feels good to have a productive day once in a while.

Candy Cane Crush

Ok, I was clearly inspired by the traditional red and white candy-cane for today's look. Why not get inspired by a classic treat of the season? I've always liked the combination of red and white, it's clean, crisp and the pop of red gives it just the right contrast! I layered a striped shirt under my red sweater because I only wanted hints of the stripes. I then kept the rest of the outfit very muted and understated with light grey jeans and boots. I have to say, the combination of pigtails and stripes is giving me strong elf vibes... 'Tis the season after all!

Grey Topper

Friday jean-day definitely calls for the Canadian tuxedo! I love mixing and matching different washes of denim in the same outfit. It can be a bit tricky to get it just right, but by pairing a coloured denim with a traditional blue, you can't really go wrong. I opted for grey jeans and a dark denim jacket. I added pops of colour with the chartreuse cardigan and blanked scarf. Layers are a must at this time of year because the weather is so unpredictable. I won't complain though, as I do love wearing my blanket scarves!

Trusty Chambray

Chambray shirts are the best! They are so versatile, and appropriate for almost any occasion. In today's look, I dressed it up a bit by going the preppy route. Add some jeans and a blazer and the look really comes together. Finish off with cute bow pumps, a marbled necklace and a bright belt to give it some flair. I feel this shirt can take you from business casual to monkey business and every business in between! If you don't already have a chambray shirt, I strongly suggest investing in one as soon as possible. Trust me, you will get a lot of wear out of it!

Easter Hoppenings!

I am actually having a pretty low-key Easter. My big plans are to stay home and catch-up on house cleaning... I know, egg-citing, right? Growing up, I always looked forward to the Easter-egg hunt as I am a huge chocoholic... Coming from a large family, the hunt was always a big affair! As I don't have children, and my niece and nephew are still too young for the activity, I sort of miss it. My partner did however surprise me with my very own egg-hunt a few years back and it was the best thing ever! I woke up early to use the washroom and spotted an egg on the vanity. I didn't think much of it at first, as I was still half-asleep, but after spotting a second egg, excitement took over! So there I was, up at the crack of dawn, hunting for chocolate eggs! The best part was that the loot was entirely for me, no splitting between the siblings! I am still very much a kid at heart and it is the little things that mean the most. I was genuinely surprised and I think that made the whole thing even more fun than if I had expected it!

Now for the look. I wore this outfit earlier this week, I love mixing pastels with grey. The contrast is softer against grey than it is against black and allows for the colours to pop in a subtle way. Even though we got snow this week, I feel like Easter is the point where it is officially spring-wardrobe time! I'm busting out the colours, the florals and the flowy dresses!

Five Shades of Grey

I'm in a monochromatic mood today... literally! I chose a colour, and that's as far as my outfit planning went. Light grey skinnies, a shimmer grey sweater and a grey faux-fur vest come together in perfect harmony. Hard not to look good when all the garments are in different shades of the same colour. I kept the trend going for the outside look with grey coat, boots and tuque. This is definitely a safe way to go if you are not feeling very creative or are in a rush to get out the door. Pick a colour, and run with it!

Preppy Layers

I went for a simple preppy look today. I only had a few days of work left before the Holidays, and I opted for a more relaxed look. There will be plenty of fancy dressing coming up shortly, so I'm making the most of the downtime prior to the festivities. Wearing a thin sweater over a blouse is a simple and effective way of dressing it down. The layers will keep you warm, but also provide an option should you get too warm. I decided to wear my red plaid scarf in a more cape-like fashion, tied to the side. It makes it look a bit more glamorous. I might not have been completely decked out today, but I added a bit of festive colour to my look. I don't want to be thought of as a Bah Humbug after all!

Snow Bunny

There's no business like snow business and this vest means business! If it's -40 degrees outside, this vest has got you covered – literally! Now, I know it's not that cold out yet, but I felt like wearing something cozy today. I stuck with the nude palette of the vest and paired it with grey skinnies and a beige long-sleeve t-shirt. I could not resist wearing my little fur-trimmed booties, they were made to wear with this vest! Let's just say I was ready for that long-overdue snow storm, should it have decided to rage upon us today...
