Mauve Metallic

Here I go again using my favourite layering technique! I stuck to a palette of purple and blues for an effortless look. I added rubber boots because the forecast was calling for rain today. I guess spring is just around the corner! I'll take advantage of wearing my sweaters while I still can, I fear I will have to store them soon enough. But that's ok, because it will make way for bright colours and fun, springtime prints! What are your go-to transition pieces for spring?

Vintage Layer

I have had this blouse since high school. I'm pretty sure I wore it for my grade 10 pictures... I almost hate to admit it, but I was a fan of Hilary Duff's Lizzie McGuire character and the movie had come out around that time. I remember really loving this blouse because it resembled those she wore in the movie. The fluted sleeves and rushing details were sort of big in the early 2000s. Turns out they are making a comeback! Fashion is so cyclical that sometimes it is worth hanging onto those special items you really love. Chances are you will still love them when they become trendy again. The best part is you'll have a vintage piece and won't have to purchase a new item to be right on trend! I say it's a win-win! I don't advise on hoarding all of your clothes, but hang on to those pieces you really love. I did the same with a pair of high-waisted bell-bottom jeans and was really happy to have them when the trend made a comeback a couple years ago. What items to you hang on to in the hopes of them become trendy again?

P.S. Puppy wanted to play today, hence the stuffed duck in the first picture...

In the Navy

I present: monochromatic print-mixing! I feel like I haven't done much print-mixing lately. That might have something to do with having access to only a fraction of my wardrobe... Hopefully it won't be for much longer. Fingers crossed that everything falls into place (and on schedule) and that we get to move back home soon. I did a walk-through of the house today with the painter to mark all the walls with the colour codes I've selected. Upon receiving my very detailed list of colour choices, both the painter and the contractor were convinced I had a professional designer or decorator curate my list. As flattering as the comment was, all selections were done by yours truly. I have to admit, I did enjoy the selection process. I've been putting a lot of thought into each room design for the past few months. I'm actually using Pinterest the way it's meant to be used. Hello vision boards! I've been pinning most of the actual items for each room. I never thought of myself as having a knack for "styling" a room, let alone an entire house, but I've been looking at it from the same standpoint as if I were styling a daily outfit. The general concepts are the same in my opinion. It's all about colours, textures, interest, dimension and accessories. Here's to hoping it all comes together harmoniously. I'll keep you all posted!

Metallic Moto

At first glance, I feel this outfit clashed a little, but after looking at it a bit longer I enjoy the hardness of the motto jeans with the softness of the metallic lilac sweater. They complement one another well. I added a lighter lilac camisole under the sweater for extra warmth and extra interest! The sweater is a tad shorter, and I like to make sure I stay covered in the winter time! There is nothing worse than your shirt riding up underneath your coat and having a gust of chilly wind on your exposed mid-section! Layering really helps with that! I also added my good ol' brown boots. It is officially cold enough to revert to only wearing real winter boots. So, I apologize in advance for the repeats. I actually have more pairs than the average canuck, but still have a limited selection. Quality winter boots are an investment, so I intend to wear them as much as I can!

Mauve Mood

Metallic mauve for Monday! Purple is my favourite colour, in any shade! I love the metallic touch in this sweater, it gives it that certain je ne sais quoi. I decided to layer a sheer white blouse underneath it and finished off the look with my printed Banana Republic pants. It was a great comfy-cozy look for a Monday, which also happened to be the first big snowfall of the season. I sure was happy to be in a cozy sweater! Bring on the fluffy white stuff!

Mini? Check!

Men shirt, short skirt... Shania Twain was on to something with these lyrics. Yup, this outfit is totally inspired by a song. It just goes to prove that inspiration can come from anywhere! I decided on my black mini skirt and buffalo-plaid shirt (which is loose fitting, more like a boyfriend shirt) and spiced it up with a metallic sweater, velvet chocker and over-the-knee boots! This was a really fun and unexpected layered look for a casual Friday! Wearing a plaid shirt instantly gives the metallic a more dressed-down vibe. I haven't stopped wearing this shirt since I got it and can't wait to add it to the cycle of holiday clothes in December! Stick around to see more ways of styling this classic.
