Lighter Layer

The temperatures are definitely on the rise lately... I finally decided to wear this loose-fitting layered crop top, as it won't stick to me in the heat. I paired it with a brightly-coloured necklace and sourced out the rest of my accessories to match it. In come the chartreuse belt and red earrings. To complete the look, I chose a crisp white denim skirt for it's sun-deflecting properties. I don't know for a fact that white clothes reflect the sunlight, but I know I don't feel as warm when I wear white clothes. So, I'm going to stick to that theory and keep on thinking white keeps me cooler.

Makin' a Splash!

Summer = swimming, and with that come swimsuits! I'll admit, my swimsuit collection is quite a complete one. I have so many opportunities to wear them that I like having a little variety! I've had this plum number for a few years now and still love it to bits! I particularly love wearing this one on resorts because the bling on the straps and the richness of the colour give it an air of sophistication. I'm going to contradict myself right now by saying I recently wore at the trailer park... I have no logical reasoning for the choice except that I simply felt like wearing it. I did however match it with a bright orange sarong, which I've had for ages (seriously, I've had it for at least 10 years). I love how both the colours of the swimsuit and the sarong were present in my straw tote. This pool getup was perfectly harmonious!

Sunday Fun Day

I was at my aunt's trailer for Canada Day, therefore I wore red and white to highlight the occasion. I added a denim jacket at the last minute because I was worried it might get a little chilly. I was right, I should have also brought pants... Oops! The day started out sunny and hot, but turned to rain in the afternoon. The skies cleared up just in time for the outdoor pig roast, which was very good! We then moseyed on down to the open amphitheatre to play bingo (yes, I love playing bingo). At some point, it started storming! I mean thunder, lightning and the whole bit. Let me just say it was deafening against the tin roof! I must admit, playing bingo is adrenaline pumping in itself, but the thrill of playing during a massive storm compounded that feeling and made for the most exciting game of bingo ever! It helps that there was a massive jackpot that evening. The fireworks were to take place the following evening, so I missed out on those, but the storm was a great alternative! All in all, it was a great Canada Day!

Maxed Out

When I wear something, I like to wear it to the max! Well, ok, maybe not all the time. But when I decide I'm going to wear something to the max, I go all out! This dress is so bold and colourful with its tropical print it screams summer! A bold print, on a maxi dress, makes for a really stand-out piece. I decided to infuse a bit of drama by adding a black cropped cardigan and black sandals. The print is still the centre of the show, but the black sets it off just right. I finished off with jewel toned jewelry that pick up on the golden and purple hues of the print. A bit a fun, a bit of glam and a bit of drama make for a maxed out look!

Corporate Coachella

What if you have to go to work, but really feel like attending one of the many summer music festivals? Why, wear a mash-up outfit of something you'd like to be wearing and something that is work appropriate, of course! I realize this look is unconventional to say the least, but I must admit I like the end result! I felt a little boho vibe, but was dressed up enough for the office. The mix of a lace dress and lace-up gladiators paired with a pendant and turquoise jewelry is perfectly Coachella. By adding the black sleeveless blazer, I gave the outfit enough structure and coverage to make it A OK for a work environment. Ok, I know it would definitely not pass in an office with a very strict dress code, so please don't try this if you work in an extremely conservative workplace. But, as I've mentioned before, my workplace is a bit more objective, so I made it work.

TBT - Peaceful Paisley

I wore this cute little outfit three summers ago. I love the peaceful combination of mint and ivory. The paisley print is so soft and seems to have a flowing motion, similar to the patterns left by little bugs on the surface of a pond... Paisley is a classic print, but I don't see as much of it as I used too. It's not often used with pastels, I more frequently see it in warm tones and on heavier fabrics. I've always loved the print, ever since my mom made me the cutest little pinafore dress and matching blouse when I was about 4. Paisley will always be a welcome print in my closet!

Summer Geometry

I've been spending quite a bit of time at my aunt's trailer this summer. I always enjoy her company and her neighbouring friends are good fun too! My partner had to work over the long weekend, so I made plans to hang out with my aunt. We watched the cardboard box boat races. It was so fun to watch all the kids paddle their way across the lake in their handmade contraptions! There even was a bigger boat that fit 42 people and made it the entire way without sinking! I decided on wearing a simple outfit of black shorts and a geometric-print tank top. It was cute enough to take me from one activity to the other while keeping me cool and comfortable. Don't you just love summer?

Polynesian Flutter

Today's look is actually what I wore before and after the pool party. I had done a bit of house cleaning and laundry while waiting for everybody to get to there before heading over. I kept the look very simple by wearing printed shorts with a flutter-sleeve t-shirt. I wore my hat and flip flops seeing as those were the items I'd also be wearing around the pool. No need to reinvent the wheel. I wore two outfits, but some of the items were part of both. I try to keep things simple... sometimes!

Pool Party

I must say, I like the convenience of having an aunt live in the same neighborhood as me, especially when said aunt has a pool! I get to combine two activities into one, visit with family and do it all while staying refreshed. It's a great way of spending time with family and enjoying the summer. On this particular day, my brother, sister in law, niece, sister and mom were all in on the fun! It was great seeing the little cherub splash in the pool and take a few steps with the help of her dad. They are moving away, so this was the last visit for a little while. Gotta get my aunty snuggles while I can! I wore a simple black bikini with black cover-up and flip flops. I added a big hat to shield myself from the rays. It's always more fun when you are not sunburned the next day! ;)

Vert et Fière

I know I'm a little late on posting this one, but the day crept up on me! The 24th of June is a special day for all francophones across the country! I am a proud franco-ontarian, therefore I like to wear white and green (the colours of our flag) on this festive day. I am proud of my heritage and know I am part of a rich history. Culture is important to me and I think it should be celebrated each and every day. However, it is nice to have a dedicated day on which to celebrate it a little bit more! Bonne St-Jean à toutes et à tous! Vive le français!
