Merrickville Mood

Last weekend, we decided to do a day trip to one of our favourite local towns: Merrickville! We first started the day with a little detour to Almonte for some Hummingbird chocolate. I had seen their new dried strawberry and pink pepper bar on Instagram the night before, so had to go get some. It's amazing! Once I got my hands on the chocolate, we headed to Merrickville.

It was a hot day. I think it's the hottest day we've had so far. We did the shops, starting with my all-time favourite Anarchy Gallery and said hi to Angelina! We also went to our usual stops: the bookstore, the record store, A Touch of Whimsy and Country Bumpkins for some fudge. At that point, we were so hot we decided to go to the beach for a swim. It was the most refreshing thing! For once, I was hot enough to go straight into the water (I usually ease into it!) We hung-out on the beach for a bit and then headed to Smiths Falls for dinner.

We were going to catch The Lion King at the drive-in in Port Emsley, so figured we'd have dinner on the way. We found this trendy gastropub, the Axe and Arrow, and had a fabulous meal. My Caesar had enough garnishes to make it a meal of its own and it was hand's down the best one I've ever had! Once we finished our meal, we still had time to spare before the movie started at sundown so we hung out by the water and my husband did a bit of fishing. It had cooled down a bit by that point, so it was nice to just relax on the dock. It was a perfect summer's day!
