ONE // Winter Wonderland
We had a wonderful Christmas break! We travelled a lot, but that meant we got so see a lots of family. While it was mostly hectic, I did find moments of relaxation. We started our break with a few days just the two of us at the cottage. It was cold and there was lots of snow. I had brought my winter gear so bundled up and went for some peaceful wooden walks. There is something about a cold winter's day when the sun is shining brightly. I had the woods to myself for the better part of an hour as I trekked along, taking in the beauty of nature at every turn. I enjoyed those very woods this fall in their autumnal splendor and now blanketed in shimmering snow. Nature is beautiful!
TWO // Sledding
Speaking of snow-filled fun, we actually went sledding on Christmas day with my brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew. While my siblings and I spent our childhood sledding, I can't remember the last time I went zooming down a hill on a plastic sled... We had an absolute blast! I am a cautious person by nature so didn't do anything too risky, but others made the most of the little jump on the hill and got some air! I could barely manage to go down the hill in a straight line. Many laughs were had and we all returned home with rosy cheeks! Exactly what Christmas breaks are made for!
THREE // Planner Prep
One of my tasks every year during my Christmas break is to sit down and prepare my agenda for the new year. I transfer over all important dates, recurring events and appointments for the new calendar year. I'm a creature of habit so have been using the same Franklin Covey refills every year. I first do the monthly pages, then transfer the info into the weekly section. It's a lot of work, but I find it helps keep me organized throughout the year. I decided to treat myself this year and also get stickers with monthly themes. Stickers are always fun and can be useful in a planner! So far, I'm loving this new addition. I found a way to make this process even more fun than usual. Highlighters play a big part in my process and things are obviously colour-coded, but thematic stickers take things to a new level!
FOUR // Let There Be Light
My husband has a thing with lighting and lights in general. He's been talking for ages about adding pot lights or other light features in our main space to make it cozy. I'm not against the idea, but I'm not up for some major electrical work... The other thing is that my husband is a great problem solver. He's been letting the though simmer for a while and came up with the ideal solution! Easy installation, affordable and minimal work required. This is also a great way to test out lighting in an area before fully committing to major work.
We got these rechargeable little spotlights on Amazon. We attached them with Command Strips and the light itself is magnetic, so easy to remove to recharge. They have three warmth settings (for different moods) and the best part is that they are remote-activated! My only request was that I wanted a point and click remote. I want to use the same remote and just point it at the light I want to turn on or off. Well, he delivered! The best part is that we got two sets of lights, but they all work with one remote. I have a lifelong struggle with multiple light switches, so this solution is perfect! So far, we absolutely love our new lighting features!
FIVE // Puzzle Time
I think I only got around to doing one puzzle last year... I got busier and had different priorities. However, I still love puzzling and want to carve out more time in the coming months to dedicate to it. I decided there was no time like the present and, on the last day of my Christmas break, decided to do just that! My colleague had given me a good selection of puzzles, so I grabbed one from that pile. I landed on this image of frames with sport-themed animals. It was such a cute one to do and, because of the different frames and colours, was fairly straightforward so I got it done in a day. I'm so happy I already got a puzzle under my belt for this year. Only one to go to surpass my 2024 records. Ha!
