ONE // New Year Reset
I waited a bit longer to put away my Christmas decorations this year. We travelled a lot during the holidays and I felt like I hadn't gotten to enjoy my cozy living room as much as I wanted. I also didn't want to put pressure on myself to tackle the task during my last days off before going back to work. Honestly, it felt nice to give myself that pass. I had planned to do it on the weekend after the going back to work and I did just that! It's a big job and I need to be in the right mood to tackle it. I hauled up all the boxes and put everything away, then I cleaned the entire main floor before putting out my winter décor. I just put out a few winter touches because I find it too depressing to remove Christmas all at once. Adding a couple snowy bits helps soften the blow. I also find it keeps the cozy vibe going, but in a more seasonal way.
TWO // Pizza
The sourdough journey continues. My latest bread had been my best one so far and I was feeling more confident in making another. Well, the whole experience is keeping me humble because this dough did not rise... Clearly, my starter wasn't active enough. I was left with this dough that appeared usable in all ways except to make a loaf. I didn't want to just throw it away because that seems so wasteful. I thought about it for some time and, with help from my husband, we figured it might be usable for pizzas. Well, we decided it was worth a shot! We raided our fridge to see what topping ingredients we had on hand and proceeded to make five pizzas! We made a BBQ chicken, two vegetable, one dill pickle and one dessert variety. We actually had quite a good time making these and getting creative with the flavour options. We baked the lot and they all turned out! We sampled two for lunch and popped the other two in the freezer. We finished off with the dessert pizza that had a layer of nutella, some banana slices and toasted marshmallow. What a sticky, gooey, delicious mess! I'm so happy we were able to salvage our sourdough. What appeared to be a fail at first glance turned into a happy little pizza party.
THREE // Snowflake Pillow
I've been loving whimsical decorative pillows lately and absolutely fell for this snowflake! I find these unique pillows take my seasonal décor up a notch and I enjoy they cozy element they bring. Sure, they are not the most functional pillows, but they can still be used as such. That can't be said about most seasonal décor bits. I try to avoid getting my space too cluttered when I change it up for the seasons. Some things really are there just because they look cute and contribute to the overall vibe, but I do try to add items that actually serve a purpose. Think candles, twinkle lights, cushion covers and throws - these elements are all practical items that can easily be swapped out seasonally. I love giving my space little updates to keep things fresh and this snowflake pillow is the most perfect winter addition!
FOUR // More Crackers
As much as I've been enjoying the journey that is making sourdough bread, discovering discard crackers has been a great highlight! I've been making a batch every chance I get and both my husband and I really love snacking on these crunchy treats. I've been making the basic recipe on repeat but thought I'd experiment a bit this past week. I decided to add a dash of hot sauce to my mixture along with some shredded cheese. I'd made cheese crackers before and they turned out, so I figured it would be a safe bet to add a little heat. Well, they are delicious! They are a bit darker, but that has to do with the red sauce. While cheese crackers are good, I don't find the cheese adds that much to the overall flavour as the basic cracker flavour is delish. These have just enough heat and zing to them - will definitely make again. I'm also encouraged to keep experimenting with other cracker flavours.
FIVE // HHH Pre-Spring Capsule
Here we go - the first Hill House drop of the year is here! It's a pre-spring capsule with beautiful florals and pastels to put a spring in our step. I actually love both the Belgravia and Pimlico florals! I already have some similar options to the Belgravia, so I'd lean more towards the Pimlico because I don't have many pink Nap Dress options. I did see a sneak peek involving hearts that should drop soon, so I might wait and see what that option looks like before deciding. Then again, I've also been toying with the idea of adding a red dress to the collection. My current options are both plaids, which is great, but more wearable in the fall/winter. That's where the red daisy eyelet caught my eye. I tend to opt for detail in the fabric of my solid-coloured dresses to give them more interest and this one would fit that bill. Decisions, decisions...
