TBT - Pump up the Purple

Today's outfit was inspired by one of my favourite childhood board games: Clue! I always picked the purple peg, as it was my favourite colour, and remember being annoyed that the character associated to the said colour was male... Today, I put together a monochromatic purple look. The starting off piece was my plum sheath dress, layered with a sheer white blouse and topped with a lilac blazer. I added a couple statement accessories to give the look a bit more flair. After all, the Clue characters never lacked flair! Add some plum pumps and voilà! I present my female take on Professor Plum!

Nine to Fine

How cool looking is this silver peplum top? I'm a sucker for peplum and all things metallic, so this number was right up my alley! Plus, I got it on clearance! I decided to pair it with my black and silver printed pants and a white neck-tie blouse. The layering makes for an interesting take on proportions as the blouse is long and loose-fitting, while the peplum top is structured and fitted. I feel a bit like a medieval knight putting on a suit of armor for battle. What is everyday life if not a battle at times? One must dress for the day ahead, which could require battle attire! Lol!

Distressed and Fringed

Sometimes a simple jeans and sweater combo is all you need to get through the day. I paired my distressed desert-wash jeans with a beige fringe-hem sweater. I like that the fringes echo the tears in the jeans, as it looks a little torn itself! I stuck with the cream shade for the outside look and added hints of brown with the stole and boots. Basic neutrals to stay cozy on a cool day. Simplicity at its best!

Breton & Blush

This is a softer version of the nautical palette. I traded in the bright red for a blush pink and added a pearl-cluster necklace. I also opted for black instead of navy. Although a Breton-striped top with jeans can make a great casual outfit, adding a structured piece, such as a sleeveless blazer, polishes the overall look. I also like that it allows for the print of the top to be seen on the sleeves. The blazer breaks up the pattern without covering it up completely. With the inching of winter into spring, I find myself lightening up on the layering and the sleeveless blazer is a great layer for those in-between temperatures!

Galaxy Chills

Don't mind me, just hangin' out in my soft pants. I traded in my usual skinny jeans for some galaxy-print soft pants this weekend. They are basically glorified pajamas, therefore appropriate lounging wear! The silky finish made me feel like I was wearing something fancy and glamorous. This was the perfect look for curling up with a good book (I can't seem to put it down lately!). Turns out it's also the perfect napping attire since, after a couple grueling hours of reading, I was in dire need of a power nap! What are weekends for anyways!

Lush Winter Wonderland

Today, I'm embracing the cold winter palette! Whites, greys and blues mesh together well to give a harmonizing look. This little cropped eyelash sweater was one of my favourites last season, and I've only recently dug it out this year. I paired it with a white and grey gingham shirt and robin's egg blue jeans. I decided to add my marble necklace, which picks up on the colours and geometry of the shirt, but that stands out against the fluffiness of the sweater with its hard edges. I am a big proponent of wearing pastels in the winter. I find they echo the coolness of the weather, without being too harsh or vibrant against the sleeping outdoor scenery.

Chic Thrills

I love a good flounce skirt and this little number is fun and a bit edgy. The marble-print in shades of black and burgundy gives this otherwise feminine cut a bit of edge. I toned down that edge by pairing the skirt with floral tights and a sweet graphic sweater. I like the irony of pairing a "très chic" sweater with an edgier piece. Tough meets sweet! I decided to break the line between the tights and boots with burgundy socks and opted for the same shade with my outdoor accessories. I did not reinvent the wheel with today's palette. I was able to achieve interest with prints and textures rather, than relying solely on colour to spice up the look.

TBT - My Yacht Is Sailing In

A girl can dream of spending long sunny days aboard a yacht... If that day ever comes, I've got the perfect outfit! This high-low striped dress is a dream! I am a sucker for the nautical style (see, I was born to be a yacht-er) and liked the diagonal stripes, as they appear less harsh as an all-over print. The high-low hem is ideal for tall girls and is also practical. You get the benefit of the longer dress, all while staying cool. Plus, the wind is actually your friend in this, as with that bizarre hem, it won't cause you to have a Marilyn Monroe moment. When the breeze catches the longer part of the dress, it actually lifts it a bit and makes it seem like you are gliding. What's not to love about that?

Corporate Sweater Dress

A sweater dress is inherently casual, but like most casual pieces, can be dressed up. I chose a form-fitting dress and paired it with a black sleeveless blazer, a black suede cut-out obi belt and black tights. The monochromatic look is very boardroom appropriate and the contrast of black and white is striking! Adding a tailored piece to a form-fitting one created a balance that instantly gives the look structure. The best part? A sweater dress is winter comfort at its best, but this fact totally goes unnoticed with this styling trick! If you're going to be sitting in a meeting all day, might as well wear something comfortable, all while looking the part of course!

Into The Woods

You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl! I feel like this look is ski-cabin chic. I could totally see myself wearing this to dinner during a ski weekend. The thick fabric of the skirt, the chunkiness of the knit, the puffiness of the vest and the printed socks are all elements reminiscent of clothing worn during those cold winter activities. This look proves that you can take all of these elements and incorporate them into a dressier outfit. Besides, other than the skirt, every piece of this look could be worn for actual skiing. This makes packing a breeze!
