Double-Date Dazzle

We planned a simple, at-home double-date to ring in the New Year. Seeing as I was staying indoors, I opted to wear my black lace-up flats with cozy leggings and a sweater. I stepped it up a notch with an open-back, chain-detail sweater that showed a peek of velvet bralette. Add some cute pendant earrings to give the front a little bling, wear your hair up to really let the sweater shine, and you are ready to party! I think this look hits the rights notes of comfy-casual and festive-bling for a simple holiday get-together. The plus side is that the outfit is totally host-functional! Not that I do any of the cooking, I would be able to assist in the kitchen without having any part of my outfit get in the way! My amateur-chef partner whipped up a fabulous French-inspired meal comprised of ratatouille with baguette, French onion soup and salmon croquettes with citrus-cream sauce. It was all so delicious. I made sure everyone's wine glass was always full. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!

More Knits Please

Here's another perfect example of my casual winter-dressing. The shirt might say less is more, but in winter, more layers is definitely the way to go! More knits, more socks, more hot drinks and more snuggles! I was all set in today's look, just add a couch, blanket, a couple puppies and a hot cup of tea to create that perfect relaxing setting. It's hygga all the way!

Winter Weekend

When the first day of the year is on a Sunday, I reach for my go-to sweater, skinny, socks combo! You really can't go wrong with a Faire Isle knit and really chunky socks for a lazy day at home. The best part is that you are totally ready to go should you really need to leave the house and brace the elements. I am definitely back into my cocooning mode. This is the best thing to wear on those dark, cold days in the dead of winter.

Presently Pampering

I took a day before Christmas to pamper myself. I booked a long massage had a good soak in a bath with Epsom salt and a festive bath bomb. I then gave myself a mani/pedi at home while watching Christmas movies. There is no better start to the Holidays than by taking time for yourself and resting. It's the present I gave myself! I do a full-blown pedicure once a month, foot soak and everything! It's a bit of a ritual and I love doing it! It forces me to sit down and stay put while my feet are soaking and while the nail polish dries. Proper foot care is very important to me as it is easy to neglect those little piggies... By taking time for myself before all the parties and family gatherings, I makes sure I'm good to go! I decided to wear comfy leggings and a drapey sweater. Comfy and cozy was the theme of the day! Sorry for the fresh face and messy hair, today was all about feeling good, no so much looking good!

Opération Nez-Rouge

Instead of going out and partying on New Year's Eve, I decided to volunteer with Operation Red-Nose. The organization makes the community safer by offering a car-pooling service to avoid drunk driving. Basically, the volunteers are in teams of three and together they drive to a pick-up location. At that point two of the volunteers drive the customer home in their own car while the third team member follows in the other vehicle. This way, both the customer and his vehicle make it home safely. The organization is donation based, and all donations go back into the community. I teamed up with an aunt and uncle and I think we picked a good night to volunteer, it was busy! I absolutely loved the experience and encourage everyone to give it a try at some point. I definitely rang in the New Year on the right foot!

TBT - Batting Lashes

I wore this blush pleated midi skirt a few years back. I love how it is high-waisted and allows for a bit of creativity with proportions. I paired it with a cropped black eyelash sweater and a cute little bow belt. I added some major bling and black boots to finish off the look. I love the balance of black and blush and the colour combination reminds me of my dancing days... The idea of styling my hair in a bun probably stemmed from that nostalgia. This outfit is a perfect example of how to wear pastels in the cooler months. Pairing them with black gives them that slightly more edgy feel without making them look out of place.

Boxing Bay

For once, I did not shop for clothing on Boxing Day... We've got an entire house to furnish. We're holding off on buying any furniture until we move in, that way we can have a real feel for the space before making any decisions. We will however need a few essentials upon move-in day. Trying to think practically and logically, we figured pots, dishes and utensils were a good place to start. A new kitchen is sort of useless unless you have something to cook and eat from. Off to the Bay we went! It was perfect timing and we took advantage of the great sales. I can check that tiny thing off my never-ending list...

Mimi Noël

I couldn't help myself, I just had to wear red on Christmas Eve! How cute is this scalloped dress? You can always count on Banana for simple, classic cuts with an edge. I was lucky enough to get this little number for a steal during a sale and it is perfect! The scuba material means it's stiff enough to keep its shape, but supple enough to be super comfortable. Seeing as it is sleeveless, I added my go-to neck-tie blouse for a touch of sophistication. I finished off the outfit with sheer polka dot tights and black quilted flats. We had a fabulous réveillon with family. The evening was filled with games, excellent food and even a campfire! The soirée truly resonated with the spirit of the season!

Back to Work(ing out)

You all know the drill... After the eating marathon that are the Holidays, getting back into healthy habits is the tried and true way to go come the new year. I figured I'd post a typical weekend-workout look. I tend to live in my Lulus on my days off. I like to think it's to motivate me to work out, but the comfort of my workout gear definitely plays a part in the choice... I wore a typical black leggings and black tank combo. Seeing as it's winter, I added a grey overpiece to the mix for the added warmth. Don't mind the fresh face and messy hair, I don't glam up to work out!

New Year, Same Mimi

I glitterally get get over these shoes!!! Although I wore this outfit to a traditional family gathering over the Holidays, it would also be perfect for New Year's! The gold pleated midi has "party" written all over it and don't even get me started on those shoes! I mean, they are the perfect gold-sequin Mary-Janes a girl could ask for! Dorothy's ruby version are great, but there is no place like home in my closet for these pretties! Seeing as I had enough shine and sparkle going on, I kept the rest of the look simple with a black flounce sleeve blouse, sheer black tights and a black and gold velvet waist belt. I added some pendant pearls for good measure and the look was complete! I am sooo ready for a new year. Sayonara 2016! I am definitely looking forward to a fresh start in our newly rebuilt home. Still waiting on a move-in day, but things are moving along nicely!
