TBT - French Af-flare

A Canadian girl in Paris... I wish! Just a Canadian girl pretending to be in the City of Lights! I can dream, perhaps one day I'll be walking down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. For now, I will settle with dressing à la française! Simple, classic and elegant are a few words that describe the French way of dressing. I chose a classic black pencil skirt and paired it with a striped top and white cardigan. I added a hint of personal style with the bold waist belt. Simple black heeled-boots finished off the look. I think my monochromatic look hit all the right notes! Perhaps I could even switch out the cardigan for a cropped white bouclé blazer. That would be sure to make Coco Chanel proud!

Pastel Prep

With Easter fast approaching, I let myself be inspired by all the pretty pastel sweets! Turquoise and baby pink are abundant at this time of year, so I decided to colour-block a look based on the festive hues. Since I didn't want to go overboard, I topped-off my look with a utilitarian navy blazer to add structure and tone-down the whimsy. Another little trick I used was to knot my t-shirt at the waist. Seeing as it is metallic, I didn't want it to take up too much of the look. To keep my proportions in check, I made it shorter! Add-in some fur-trimmed beige booties to blend in with the tights and I had another great springtime look!

Fuzzy Floral

In keeping with the theme lately, today's look is another option for that in-between season weather. Slowly start incorporating floral prints in your looks again. I paired my floral pencil skirt with thicker, darker shaded pieces. A purple tunic sweater, grey tights and a grey suede jacket help tone down the pastel print of the skirt. This look is perfectly balanced. I've got a hint of spring, making me optimistic, while keepin' it real and staying warm with crafty layering.

Pastel Turtle

Another trick in making springtime dressing a breeze is to mix darker colours with pastels. I realize it kind of goes against some people's instincts, but I swear by it! In today's look, I paired my classic black turtle neck with baby blue trousers and a chartreuse belt. I also added black ankle booties and a navy coat for the outside look. The hints of pastel lighten the look and make it seem less "winterized", although I wear a lot of these pieces during the winter. Overall, the look is less heavy and stuffy, the blue pants are a breath of fresh air! The ankle length is also nice as it hints to warmer temperatures without committing to shorter hemlines and bare legs. I'm testing the waters without fully jumping in! I will be patient, spring is on its way, let's not rush it. There will be plenty of opportunities to wear my brightly coloured clothing once more. For now, I will be content with getting a little bit more wear out of some winter staples.

April Showers

Today's look is a perfect springtime get-up. Layering is still a go-to technique, because some days as still cold. Not only does the temperature still teeter around the freezing point, but the rain starts. April showers are a real thing... I don't mind the rain if I am dressed for it. Today was going to be rainy and cold, so I wore a faux-fur vest to stay warm and rubber boots to stay dry. The windowpane top is a nice light print, perfect for spring, and the pop of pink brightened things up on this dreary day. Infusing a bright colour in you outfit on a rainy day is a surefire way of lifting your spirit!

Happy Camper

Happy to be home, but feels like camping: so that makes me a Happy Camper! I'm currently really liking my graphic Ts. They are easy to wear and make getting dressed look effortless. I wore this look a couple weekends ago to, you guessed it, unpack and settle-in. Operation Nesting Phoenix is progressing slowly, but surely. It's a good mix of construction, unpacking and furniture shopping. There is plenty to keep me busy for sure! Seeing as this sweater was packed away during the winter, I decided to wear it! It is so comfy and has a nice weight to it. The eyelash detail is a cute touch that contributes to its cozy factor. My weekend uniform is my security blanket at this point. I know I can always look put together with a sweater, skinny jeans and a t-shirt.

Snow Bright

More snow? Seriously? Oh well, I guess it's not so bad if I still get to wear my red Hunter boots. That is sure to brighten up any grey day! I had a bit of fun with print-mixing in this look. I coordinated stripes with a small circle-print, but stuck with the blue and white palette. The pop of red was the perfect finishing touch to my ensemble and instantly turned into a perfect spring outfit (even if it was snowing!)

TBT - Later Leather

When you have a statement piece, you let it speak for itself. This was the case with the leather jacket of today's look. I kept my outfit super simple to keep the focus on the purple jacket. I paired it with understated teal cords, a plain white T and flat black OTK boots. I added the teal leopard-print scarf to tie it all together and that's it! Sometimes, I like to wear my light, in-between season, jackets as blazers in the cooler months. Unzipped, this jacket could easily work in the workplace. The fact that it is collarless gives it a bit more versatility. I really liked the colour, the shape and the fit of this jacket. Unfortunately, my leather jackets really reacted to the toxic smoke and were unsalvageable. I will be on the hunt for replacements, but I fear it will take a bit of time to find just the right ones...

Texture Tango

I'm mixing suede and velvet today in a soft-texture duo! One of my all-time favourite colour combinations is purple and grey. There is something about this combo that just makes sense to me, I naturally gravitate towards it. I started by matching the colours of the individual pieces, just to realize I was also matching textures. The boots and jacket are grey suede while the pants are purple velvet. Although the textures might give you the urge to touch, the only ones allowed to actually get close enough to feel were my puppies. These textures are a great way of making an outfit appear warmer and inviting. Have you ever seen a velvet chair you didn't want to sit on?

Wrap & Pearls

The upside to settling in is rediscovering some of my clothes. I've had this dress for a few years and it sure is a keeper! The sweatshirt-like material means it is very comfortable and warm while the wrap silhouette and the grey palette make it a timeless piece. I kept my look very chic and simple by adding a multi-strand pearl choker, grey tights and black booties. I can see myself wearing this dress time and again. It's always nice to find oldies but goodies in one's closet. Especially when one hasn't seen the full contents of one's closet for a few months...
